Usled neverovatnog preokreta sudbine, Garigan, škotski doktor u mirovnoj misiji, upoznaje jednog od najsurovijih vladara, Idija Amina. Impresioniran doktorovom samouverenošću u jednom kriznom trenutku, predsednik Ugande, Idi Amin, imenuje Garigana za svog ličnog lekara i najbližeg savetnika. Iako je u početku polaskan i impresioniran svojom novom pozicijom, doktor uskoro postaje svestan Aminove surovosti. Strah i izdaja okružuju Garigana u njegovom pokušaju da se izvuče živ iz Ugande.
